From the quarry to the project: the journey of Basaltina®
From the heart of Italy comes a unique stone that blends tradition, innovation, and sustainability. Since 1925, Basaltina® has been the hallmark of iconic projects around the world. Every Basaltina® product is the result of a process refined in every detail.
From the Bagnoregio quarry to the block-selection yard, and into the production facilities where the stone takes shape, we oversee each phase to ensure quality and uniqueness.
Where it all begins
Located in the heart of Italy, our Bagnoregio quarry is among the largest and most significant in the Italian stone industry. With over 600,000 square meters of extraction area and 26 excavators and cranes operating daily, Basaltina® stone is selected and processed with artisanal care.
For 100 years, the quarry has provided employment, wellbeing, and development to thousands of families, contributing significantly to the social and economic growth of the entire Viterbo hinterland.
The company manages the quarry in full compliance with environmental, landscape, and labor regulations, with a strong commitment to safeguarding and enhancing the local area.
The Yard
After extraction, each block is transported to the operational heart of the Yard, where state-of-the-art machinery works at full capacity to square and cut the Basaltina® blocks.
Every day, the extracted blocks are processed at the Bagnoregio (VT) facility in the newly renovated squaring and sawing departments, equipped with diamond–wire technology that ensures a production capacity far superior to the past.
Combined with the expertise and craftsmanship of our workforce, this allows us to meet customer demands with promptness and quality, through an increasingly solid and efficient production process that underpins the success of the Basaltina® brand.
In the Basaltina S.r.l. workshops, stone processing is completed. The experience gained over time and the deep knowledge of the material enable our operators to produce finished products that enhance the stone’s natural qualities.
Our workshops are located both at the Bagnoregio quarry and at the Ascoli Piceno facility: together, they operate as two parallel production hubs, ensuring uninterrupted deliveries.
Across both sites—equipped with specialized machinery including bush-hammering machines, milling machines, and polishing lines—we produce semi-finished and finished products, and the signature textures that distinguish the Basaltina® stone.
Within our Quarry, a fully equipped mechanical facility handles maintenance and repairs of the equipment, ensuring continuity in extraction and processing activities.
Basaltina S.r.l. also operates an additional logistics yard in Carrara, confirming a structured and strategic presence across the territory.
Every stage of our production process combines technical know-how and artisanal care to deliver a high-quality stone capable of enhancing any type of project.
